Maria Zakharova commented on the results of the APEC and G20 summits

The Moscow Post journalist had one question regarding the outcome of two summits held in Peru (APEC) and Brazil (G20) from the point of view of Russia's trade and economic interests.

Maria Vladimirovna noted that economic issues are traditionally in the focus of attention of these two associations. Our delegation contributed to fixing in the final documents of both summits the thesis on the need to continue work to create a free, open, fair, non-discriminatory, transparent, inclusive and predictable trade and investment environment.

It is important for Russia that these modalities of international trade imply the desire to maintain stable and predictable supply chains, as well as the rejection of restrictive measures. The big bloc in both declarations is dedicated to the World Trade Organization, she said.

It is confirmed that it must remain the core of the multilateral trading system. Together with constructive partners, it was possible to lay the thesis of the need to speed up negotiations to restore the WTO dispute resolution system, which was blocked by the United States.

Namely, we are talking about a key instrument of the World Trade Organization, designed to ensure fair regulation of trade contradictions arising between countries.

She recalled that now, due to the actions of the States, this body is paralyzed.

"This leads to an increase in protectionism in international trade by Western countries, including under the pretext of caring for the environment," Zakharova added.

Russia, together with like-minded people from the states of the Global South and East, is trying to correct this roll. This is done to increase their own competitiveness.

"It seems to me that these efforts are aimed, among other things, at ensuring that the global competitive environment is based on market laws, and not on the laws of force pressure and endless sanctions cudgel," she added.

It was possible to create the necessary balance in the declarations, taking into account the interests of the aforementioned impressive group of economies. This will allow Russia, together with them, to effectively participate in the development of approaches to the future of international trade and global governance institutions.

The APEC forum leaders' declaration also emphasized a commitment to further advancing integration in the Pacific through the pursuit of an Asia-Pacific free trade area.

"It is important for our country that now this agenda includes not only trade integration issues, but also trade facilitation issues," she stressed.

Today, in the region as a whole, all these achievements at the APEC and G20 meetings open up opportunities for the sale of Russian goods in promising markets of developing economies.
