Maria Zakharova: "US elections are a specific show"

The first question of our publication concerned the statement of the 45th US President Donald Trump, claiming that the current head of state Joseph Biden could start the third world war. It is clear that much is said as part of the election campaign, but these statements are threatening not only for Americans.

Answering the question, Maria Zakharova agreed that this could be part of the election rhetoric. Now in the States there is a real confrontation between Democrats and Republicans, its intensity is extremely high. The diplomat recalled that the US elections are a specific show.

However, according to Maria Zakharova, if we add up all the bloody conflicts and crises in the world over the past decades, behind which the United States stood (noting both the role of the Democratic Party and the conservative wing), then this can already be compared with the global world conflict.

We are talking about the number of victims of numerous wars, the instigator of which was American politicians, and about the suffering of civilians, and about the destroyed state systems of various countries.

'Who, if not Israel, should know that'

The second question of The Moscow Post concerned the explanations that Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin gave to Israeli Ambassador to Moscow Simone Halperin. The correspondent of our publication was interested in the assessment by the Russian Foreign Ministry of Israel's policy towards Ukraine in the context of the current geopolitical crisis.

Not so long ago, Simone Halperin gave a detailed interview to Kommersant. Russian diplomats expressed disagreement with a number of assessments voiced by Mrs. Halperin. After that, she was summoned to the diplomatic department to clarify Russian approaches related to the settlement of the Ukrainian, Palestinian-Israeli crises, and other issues.

Answering the question, Maria Zakharova expressed regret that representatives of the Israeli political establishment and the state apparatus incorrectly, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry, perceive the causal relationship of the current situation in Ukraine. Moreover, both today and throughout the last decades.

"We use bilateral contacts to bring to Israel, with all due respect to its sovereignty and external course, the Russian position. Our position is principled, it has a factual basis, it is not opportunistic, "the diplomat noted.

According to her, the Israeli leadership does not understand that the situation in Ukraine has been formed for more than one year, and is directly related to World War II, as well as to the topic of Nazism and its modern reincarnation on the territory of the former Ukrainian SSR. "All of this has historical roots. And to whom, if not Israel, this should be known, "Zakharova concluded.

US role in Munich Conference

The third question of our publication is about the next Munich Security Conference starting on Friday. What does the Russian Foreign Ministry expect from it, and how does it assess the effectiveness of this site before and after February 24, 2022?

According to Maria Vladimirovna, the Foreign Ministry has no special expectations from this conference and its results. Soon, the diplomatic department will publish detailed material with a historical perspective on the work of the Munich Conference in a year - with quotes from Russian representatives who spoke on this site.

The diplomat drew attention to the strengthening of the role of the United States - it is this country that has dominated the Munich "format" in recent years. Although the conference itself was conceived as an event at which security issues on the European continent are discussed. According to Zakharova, it was all the more wild to watch the United States, representing another continent, dictate to its satellites the agenda and conclusions to which the participants of the event should come.
